Gold by Country: No One Controls This Map

China leads gold mining at just over 11 percent. No country on Earth comes close to the dominance cobalt, lithium, or nickel show in their own top producer.

No shade on this map approaches the deep concentration seen on cobalt's or nickel's country maps. The darkest square still represents well under 12% of world output.

Tonnes mined, 2024. These ten countries together still leave about 40% of world output spread across dozens of smaller producers.

Reserves tell a similarly dispersed story

Reserve estimates split across Australia and Russia (roughly 12,000 tonnes each), South Africa, Indonesia, China, Canada, the United States, Brazil, Kazakhstan, Peru, and Uzbekistan, with no single country holding a decisive lead, the reserve picture tracks the production picture closely, unlike lithium’s Bolivia-versus-Australia mismatch covered on lithium’s own country page.
