Tin by Country: China and Indonesia Lead a Genuinely Mixed Field

China and Indonesia together supply 46 percent of mined tin, but seven more countries each contribute meaningfully, unlike cobalt's single-country lock-in.

China and Indonesia lead, but the remaining seven countries on this map still account for more than half the total between them.

Tin mine production by country, 2024. Reserves lead with Indonesia (1,400 kt) ahead of China (1,200 kt), Brazil and Myanmar (700 kt each), and Australia (570 kt).

Reserves put Indonesia ahead, not China

Unlike most of the two-country-dominated maps elsewhere in this series, tin’s reserve ranking actually reorders its current top two: Indonesia holds the largest reserve estimate, ahead of China, which suggests Indonesia’s relative importance could grow further rather than plateau, a genuinely different trajectory from, say, silicon’s resource-and-capacity alignment covered on silicon’s own country page.
